Description
A couple of weeks ago I went on a cotton field shooting road trip with some good friends. After shooting the sun setting behind this sharecropper house and cotton field, we shot the milky way rising above it. I've heard that picking cotton is some of the hardest work you can do. I've heard stories about bleeding hands. It's all done by machines now. No need for slaves, sharecroppers or farm hands. But every time I stand in a cotton field I think about the people who toiled in the cotton fields against their will and those who did so because it was their only means of income. And I think about how if cotton was still picked by hand today, it would be picked by immigrants. Probably here illegally. Now that I think about it, I guess cotton really is the fabric of our lives...
